Global Warming and Indian fuels

Atmospheric Brown Clouds

Global warming

Major climate change factor in global warming is due to atmospheric brown clouds according to western countries..They feel that

Bio-fuels burnt in India generate carbon soot, which contribute to the global warming The use bio-fuels firewood, dung cakes and fossil fuels etc, is almost same and cannot increase climate change risk more. This also leads to reduction in the food yield There is a suggestion to change from firewood ,cow dung and other bio-fuels to other electric and oil based energy sources, It is a costly change It will also disrupt age-old practice.

But these fuels are not the only reason why brown clouds are formed,

Indian scientists think the haze is a normal phenomenon in winters, and non-monsoon months.

During monsoons suspended particles are washed from the atmosphere. Carbon soot combined with dust might have made the haze appear and causing global warming

Impact of Biofuels on the Global Warming

Last week the sky was full of brown clouds in Delhi. The weather was very hot and stuffy..Times of India , leading newspaper carried this news on the front page and gave the views of experts.

Haze, or  atmospheric Brown Clouds hanging over is a Local Phenomenon, and it is Seasonal In Nature: can be swept  away by winter rains

Haze cloud can impact health and food supplies, Experts feel that the phenomenon is not very new .

UNEP pointed out that the. brown cloud  remain suspended over cities for a while, but cloud also dissipate just as quickly.

Experts feel CO2 and other green-house gases mix freely in the atmosphere. But. Soot and fine particles don’t mix in the atmosphere

Incoming heat from the sun,It impacts local climate. Fine soot particles do not settle and deflect radiation coming from sun..

The experts are trying to ascertain that brown clouds are contributing factor in global warming

US experts feel global warming can be delayed by reducing brown clouds.

Indian experts feel that such a Haze takes place due to emissions from burning of biofuels and vehicles

The vehicular and industrial emissions is a real problem in India

Emission from burning fuels like coal and wood and other traditional age old fuels in rural areas is also a problem.”

Global dimming process “ is completely opposite to that of global warming where outgoing radiation is absorbed and not allowed to escape.

The fine soot is subject to seasonal fluctuation During monsoon, the haze is literally washed away.

Pollution levels in Indian cities have gone up This is contributing to the haze

. Its immediate impact is on local health

.  The pollution in India is due to dust pollution

. In March and April, and smog, in winter The diesel gensets, vehicles and burning of biofuels.are  major sources of soot and carbon “The emissions can be controlled  by restricting diesel vehicles and exercising fuel quality control,But the burning of biofuels is not possible for the rural areas.

Managing climate change by Gujrat govt.

According to the advertisment in Times of India Very strong steps have been taken by Gujrat Government to tackle the Global climate change w,hich is amajor challenge to humanity.

    a) It has set up a seperate department.

    b) A new solar policy to set up solar energy plants.

    c) A pro aactive wind Power policy .

    d) 39 clean Development Mechanism  Projects identified.

    e) GandhiNagarSolar ProjectUnder Implementation

f).Bus Rapid Transport system being implemented to reduce the Personal trips.

    g) 3.6 lakh auto vehicles switched over to CNG.

And many other actions are being taken.
