Que.1 What is Competency?
Ans. Competency can be defined as the process of identifying key attributes and skills for each position and process with in the company.
Que.2 What is Competency Mapping?
Ans. Competency Mapping plays a vital role in selecting, recruiting and retaining the right people. When the competency required for a particular position is mapped, an accurate job profile is created.
Que.3 What are the characteristics of individual in competency?
Ans. Characterstics are:
- Motives
- Values
- Traits
- Self Concept
Que.4 In how many groups competencies divided?
Ans. Competencies may be grouped into various areas. Daniel Katz grouped them under three areas which were later expanded into four areas:
- Technical and functional competencies
- Managerial (Plan, organize, Mobilize and utilize )
- Human(Motivate, utilize and develop)
- Conceptual(think at abstract level and use thinking to plan future)
Que.6 What is the problem with competency mapping?
Ans. A problem with competency mapping, especially when conducted by an organization is that there may be no room for an individual to work in a field that would best make use of his or her competencies.
Que.7 Who can identifies the competencies?
Ans. Competencies can be identified by one of more of the following category of people:
- Experts
- HR Specialists
- Job Analysts
- Psychologists
- Industrial Engineers

Ans. The following methods are used in combination for competency mapping:
- Interviews
- Group work
- Task Forces
- Task Analysis work Shops
- Questionnaire

Que 9. What is Competency Assessment?
Ans. Competency Assessment: Assessment of the extent to which a given individual or set of individuals posses these competencies required by given job or levels of job.
